Free City
is very proud to announce the release of The Tremolo of her
Mind
The Strings of her Soul, a mostly instrumental
CD by the great Norwegian band the Dipsomaniacs.
This release is a journey into territory far from the concise
melodic psychedelic pop/rock songs that the band has played on
their four highly acclaimed albums Bumble-Bee Eyes, Reverb
No Hollowness, Braid of Knees and Stethoscopic Notion.
However, the same amazing ability to openly embrace influences
while producing a wholly original sound can be heard on these
wonderfully expansive tracks.
"Dipsomaniacs' debut in the genre is one of the most inspired ones I've heard in quite a while It's like you can touch the electric and magnetic fields that surround every little note." - Mats Gustafsson, The Broken Face

As soon as we at Free City heard a recording of the Dipsomaniacs' monumental jam "In Syd's Garden" (included here in a slightly edited version), we knew we wanted to ask the band to do a CD of extended instrumentals. The band agreed but came up with a remarkable album that surpassed our already-high expectations. Singer/guitarist Øyvind Holm explains how the Dipsomaniacs approached the project:
"We could have hammered through four extremely boring blues jams or something, instead we have ended up with an emotional album that in many ways has cultivated new ground for us as musicians."
In addition to Holm, the multi-talented group consists of Thomas Henriksen (keyboards), Robert Skjærvik (bass) and Arve Gulbrandsen (drums). On The Tremolo of her Mind , they are joined by Gøran Olsen on trombone who adds a whole new modern jazz dimension to the jams. Indian music and, of course, psychedelic rock, are also woven into this experimental yet melodic and emotive side of the Dipsomaniacs' sound. The vocal song "Before Painting Your Murals" perfectly captures the delicate yet powerful space/country mood of the later Byrds, Gram Parsons and American Beauty-era Grateful Dead. Take it from Free City's Nick and Heidi Bensen - We only put out CDs that we really believe in, albums we ourselves will want to hear for many years to come. This is a simply brilliant collection that will appeal to Dipsomaniacs fans as much as it will to people who are into abstract instrumental music. The limited-edition vinyl version of the album, featuring beautifully hand-painted cover art, is being put out by Apartment Records (www.apartmentrecords.com).
